Microneedling and PRP Facial FAQ

What is traditional microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that involves puncturing the skin with fine needles to promote collagen production using a serum, typically a collagen growth factor or hyaluronic acid. Microneedling is not just exclusive to the face. The procedure can be performed on all areas of the face, neck, décolletage, as well as other body parts that may need treatment such as acne scars, rosacea, or stretch marks.

How long do the effects of therapy last? How often should I receive these treatments?

Most healthcare facilities recommend 1 treatment every month for a total of 3 treatments. Some facilities may offer more frequent sessions but we at Everest Medical Group have found that allowing time for the skin to recover for around 4 weeks typically provides the best results and most cost-effective course of care. After the initial frequency of treatment, your healthcare provider may recommend maintenance treatments as needed.

Can micro needling be done if I have received fillers or Botox?

Definitely. Patients may safely receive microneedling treatments after doing fillers or Botox injections as long as the treatment is spaced out enough. We usually will ask patients to wait at least 3 weeks after obtaining other procedures before starting a microneedling treatment.

What’s a PRP facial, and how does it work?

The PRP facial is done in the same manner as traditional microneedling the difference is that with a PRP facial, the patient’s own platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is obtained through a blood draw in the office. The concentrated PRP is then injected back into the skin with the MicroPen Elite to stimulate new collagen and elastin production, break up existing scar tissue and make the skin look and feel smoother, brighter, tighter and more youthful.

What are some of the most notable PRP-facial benefits?

Microneedling with PRP treatment is primarily used to address skin texture and stimulate collagen formation, which is essential because we stop producing our natural collagen after the age of 25. Additionally, the PRP facial is also a great remedy for acne or surgical scars because it breaks up scar tissue bands and stimulates deeper healing than would be obtained without PRP.

Are there any negative side effects I should worry about?

Very rarely will a patient experience any negative side effects, even with aggressive treatments. Typical side effects are redness and inflammation for 2-4 days. Microneedling is an excellent treatment for patients looking for texture and scar improvement.
